Personality & Traits

General Overview Sarah is a no nonsense kind of person, preferring the direct approach in person. She has a dry sense of humor and isn't afraid to bend regulations when the situation calls for it. Despite her tough exterior, she carries the weight of command heavily and sometimes struggles with the responsibility of sending pilots into dangerous situations, instead choosing to lead most missions herself. Off-duty, she enjoys holodeck simulations of ancient Earth aircraft and has a passion for 20th-century military aviation history.
Strengths & Weaknesses Strengths:
Exceptional piloting skills, quick decision-making under pressure, excellent spatial awareness, strong tactical thinking, and the ability to remain calm in crisis situations. Is always willing to take time for her pilots and mentor them when they need it.

Weaknesses:
Can be overly protective of her squadron to the point of taking unnecessary risks herself, sometimes struggles with delegation, has a tendency to bottle up personal emotions, and can be stubborn when she believes she's right. Struggles with authority when she disagrees with orders, occasionally leading to conflicts with superior officers. Has difficulty relaxing and often pushes herself too hard
Ambitions Her public ambition is to be the best pilot she can be and always bring her people home.

Privately, Sarah holds herself responsible for every life lost under her watch and believes she must make up for every life lost.

Personal History Born on a frontier colony world to an English Father and a Persian mother, Sarah grew up watching the Starfleet patrols flying over the skies of her hometown, protecting them from raiders, pirates and other undesirables who would often prey on the developing settlements. During her schooling years, Sarah picked every subject she could think of to help her achieve her dream of being a pilot from high level maths classes to metalwork and electrical. She would also use the athletics and gymnastics programs at her school to keep as fit as she could. Through her efforts, she won two state championships and qualified for the Olympics back on Earth.
Although she saw the Olympics as a great opportunity and an honour, she never forgot her goal of becoming a pilot. While on Earth competing, Sarah convinced her parents to take a trip with her to Starfleet Academy in San Francisco to talk to a Recruitment Officer about how she could go about applying for entry into their Pilot Program.
After being told about the Starfleet Entrance Exam and the limited spots available to recruits from the frontier, Sarah made it her life’s goal to grab one of those spots. After coming third in her competition behind two Vulcans, she returned home with a new source of determination to reach her goal.

On her 18th birthday, Sarah immediately put in her application to join Starfleet Academy and after sitting the exam, Sarah found out she was the only applicant from her sector that year. So even though she barely passed the exam, she was accepted into the Academy. Choosing the Command pathway, specializing in tactical flight operations.
During her third year, she distinguished herself during a training exercise by improvising a maneuver that saved her entire squadron from a simulated ambush, earning her the callsign "Flash." During the simulation, she used her fighter's limited warp drive to perform four contiguous ‘Picard manoeuvres’ creating three false images in space. Confusing the enemy’s scans.

Although her superiors and teachers were impressed, they decided to hold Sarah back for an additional year as they considered her manoeuvre a little too reckless for general service and wanted to allow her to ‘mature’ a little more before deploying her into the fleet.

After finishing her fifth year at the Academy, Sarah graduated third in her flight class, yet again earning the bronze medal. Her first assignment was to a Nebular class Starship, the USS Ticondaroga. There she was assigned to both as their shuttle pilot and their helm officer. While this wasn’t the assignment she wanted, she spent as much time volunteering for shuttle duty as she could. Every away mission, every VIP transport, every rescue mission, she would ask to be the shuttle pilot.

After almost 5 years on the Tico, Sarah transferred to a border colony just like where she grew up. This was where she thrived, taking up a Valkyire fighter twice to three times a week on patrol, assisting the colony’s survey teams and the colony guard. While on the colony, Sarah found her first love, a Trill woman by the name of Galli Vad. She was a geologist assigned to the colony’s survey teams who would analyse soil samples and core samples to tell the colony where it would be safe to expand into. Their relationship grew slowly, meeting here and there on patrols or in town. Eventually, Sarah worked up the courage to ask her out on a date.
Over the next two years, Sarah and Galli grew close, going on dates and volunteering for the same survey missions. Sarah would often be the pilot flying Galli’s team wherever they needed to go. On one mission, Sarah pulled Galli to one side of their camp at night and asked her to marry her, which she accepted.

However, it wasn’t to be, as three months later, Galli died while out on an expedition. The ground she was surveying suddenly gave out from underneath her, causing her to fall into a deep cavern from which she didn’t survive. Sarah blamed herself for Galli’s death as she’d swapped shifts with another pilot so she could prepare another date night for them.
After that day, Sarah was inconsolable and became self destructive. She would volunteer for the most dangerous missions available, often returning with her shuttle badly damaged. Other pilots would refuse to fly with her, and eventually even the motor pool would refuse to give her a fighter to fly, relegating her to shuttle piloting.

Seeing this behavior, Sarah’s CO placed her on medical leave until she sought out professional help. Reluctantly, Sarah found a civilian counsellor that would take her on. After a few months of surface level unpacking, she managed to convince the counsellor that she had moved past her grief.

Returning to duty, the only shuttle the motor pool would give her was one that no one else would touch, “Lucky 13”. A Danube class runabout with the registry of NC-1302313. Not only did it start and end with 13, but the numbers added up to 13. The engineers were even afraid to scrap it for parts in case it’s bad juju spread.

Accepting this as her start from the bottom, Sarah worked day and night for a week straight to get ‘Lucky 13’ up and running. The work helped her keep her mind off of Galli.

Once she got ‘lucky 13’ running, the pair made a reputation for being reliable in a pinch and getting their crew home with minimal injuries. Sarah even took on some search and rescue missions that others thought were foolish due to weather or tight terrain, but Sarah trusted ‘Lucky 13’ to get her in and out.

The next biggest step for Sarah’s career was having to leave her comfortable little colony she’d grown to love. Starfleet was in need of a good pilot to take over as a CAG onboard a Starbase, Deep Space 5. Taking ‘Lucky 13’ with her, Sarah left for her new posting.
