Physical Description | While Alex is biologically indistinguishable from a Vulcan, many of his outward features are more human. His eyebrows look human, and his ears are only slightly pointed. Regardless, they are usually hidden under his hair. A follower of the Great Bird of the Galaxy, he wears a silver pendant shaped like a bird on a chain around his neck, under his uniform while working and either over or under his shirt when in civilian clothing, depending on his mood. (OOC: Great Bird of the Galaxy was TOS cast and crew nickname for Gene Roddenberry) Alex is tall, fit, muscular, and handsome. what few scars he has are faint. It's not that he has never been hurt in combat, but rather because he finds it vulgar to wear scars like medals. |

Personality & Traits
General Overview | Alex is a nice guy, too nice most would say. All the rest of the men and women in the Raiders would give off a dangerous vibe, but not Alex. Some people said he reminded them of Ferdinand the Bull from the children’s story. Alex will fight, but only when he has to, and then he’ll fight well. He enjoyed the training and the skill required to be a Special Reconnaissance Corpsman and work alongside Marine Corps Critical Skills Operators, just like he enjoys the training and the skill required to study martial arts. But he takes no pleasure in having to use that training and those skills, beyond the satisfaction of doing his job well. That’s why he left the Raiders to be a Fleet Independent Duty Corpsman. Sure, he’ll have to go on Away Teams, and there will be combat, but most of his day will be spent caring for the sick and the injured. Religion and Spirituality: Alex is a follower of the Great Bird of the Galaxy, known sometimes as GBOG (“Jee Bee Oh Jee” or “Jee Bog”), which incorporates the Vulcan philosophy of IDIC (Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations) in with its other beliefs. He wears a pendant of a bird in flight on a chain around his neck. |

Strengths & Weaknesses | STRENGTHS: Cool Under Pressure Zami Physiology: Alex’s DNA leans heavily towards his Zami roots. Zami are an off-shoot of Vulcans and are biologically indistinguishable from Vulcans. He has the strength, speed, durability, and senses of a Vulcan. His eyes have nictitating membranes that protect them from bright light and minute airborne debris (like sand). Specific to Zami, he has a very strong resistance to ultraviolet radiation and a high resistance to radiation in general. This is because when the Zami settled on Rigel V (in Earth year 453 AD), they began modifying their genetics to suit their new world. There are several different races in the Rigel System (all of whom at times get referred to as “Rigellian”) and all of them have this resistance to radiation. Enhanced Sense of Direction (mainly on planets and moons): Zami have the ability to psychically sense a planet or a moon’s magnetosphere. They are effectively living, breathing compasses. They can also detect disturbances in a planet or moon’s magnetosphere, such as geomagnetic storms. The level and intensity of a planet’s geomagnetic activity and storms can affect a Zami’s sense of direction. If the storm or other interference is severe enough, this can negate the ability entirely. Highly skilled special operator and hand-to-hand combatant. Hyperpolyglot WEAKNESSES: Despite being raised by highly intelligent, well educated people, Alex is not as intellectual as he would like. He’s intelligent enough to do what he does and do it well. He’s more than just a pretty face, but he’s no scholar. Being the child of highly educated parents, this is something he’s sensitive about. It doesn’t help that while he’s a highly trained professional, trained to act independently in the medical field, he’s surrounded by extremely well educated doctors, nurses, dentists, optometrists, veterinarians, etc. Some of these people can’t get it through their heads what his job is and are irritated that they had to go through school for some of the things he does off of his IDC training. He has to bite his tongue to avoid replying “I’m not stupid, you know” to some of the orders or instructions he gets from medical officers. He’s insecure about being thought of as “stupid”. When he is on a planet or a moon, disturbances in the magnetosphere, such as a geomagnetic storm, can disrupt or even negate his ability to use a planet’s magnetosphere to navigate without technology. |

Personal History | PERSONAL HISTORY: Alex was born on Rigel V in 2354. His mother Catalea was (and still is) a physician and medical scientist on Rigel V and his father was (and still is) a novelist. Catalea was a little disappointed that Alex failed to gain entrance into Starfleet Academy, and again when the two civilian universities he’d applied to also rejected him, but in part she blamed Alin and herself. Perhaps they had pushed him too hard, pushed him to apply to schools that he didn’t have even a fair chance of getting into. Catalea admired her son for not letting that stop him from living his life and for choosing a life of service to others. Catalea encouraged Alex to volunteer at the university hospital she worked at when he was old enough to do so. He helped out with patients with anything that didn’t require medical skill. Read to them, fed them, helped them walk around or walk to and from the head. Being the nice guy that he was, helping people made him feel good, so it seemed natural for him to become a corpsman. Things took a turn when Alex was placed in the pipeline to become a corpsman in a Marine infantry regiment. Alex served as a corpsman with the SFMC through the final years of the Cardassian Border Wars, then completed the pipeline to become a Special Reconnaissance Corpsman and Special Operations Independent Duty Corpsman. Alex served in the Federation-Klingon War and the Dominion War, serving in the Marine Raider Regiment on Marine Special Operations Teams (MSOTs). Alex fought in the First and Second Battles of Chin’toka, and the siege between them. When the Breen and the Dominion destroyed the Federation, Klingon, and Romulan fleet at the Second Battle of Chin’toka, Alex was among a group of Starfleet, Marine, Klingon, and Romulan personnel left behind. Many were taken prisoner but Alex was among a group that took to the hills and fought a guerilla war against Dominion and Breen forces until the Allies took back the system at the end of the war. Alex’s unit spent some time on Cardassia with the Cardassian Reconstruction Mission. Afterwards, Alex moved on to other forward area reconnaissance and hearts and minds missions aboard smaller exploration vessels that only had space for a small number of marines, and so they made the most of it by utilizing MSOTs. After a time, Alex decided he wanted to step away from MARSOC. He applied to be a Fleet IDC and was put through the course. Some of it was repetitive, other parts either new to him or were things he knew but now had to apply them differently. |
